Q: Around six months ago, I bought a bedroom from a local supplier. A few days ago, I noticed that the doors of the wardrobe have warped. When I ordered the furniture, the seller did not give me a guarantee.

I would like to know whether I am entitled to ask the seller to replace the doors for free. What are my legal rights?

A: Legally, consumers are entitled to a remedy when they buy goods that do not conform with the contract of sale. Goods bought must be as described by the trader and must also be fit for the purpose for which goods of the same type are normally used. Additionally, the goods purchased must show the quality and performance of goods of the same type.

Therefore, if the defect in the goods has not been caused by any misuse on your part, or by atmospheric conditions in which the bedroom has been installed, such as a high level of humidity, then you are entitled to have the damaged doors repaired or replaced.
