Tessa Anastasi (‘Remembering World War 1’, The Sunday Times of Malta, April 6) makes a valid point.

The Government Gazette of November 19, 1938, lists the names of 592 men who lost their lives during The Great War, as this war was known until World War II came around. Their names were eventually inscribed on the Cenotaph in Floriana.

However, if one were to browse the internet, the number of Maltese men, or men with connections to Malta, who died in this war, would increase to approximately 700.

An official commemoration of The Great War would be in order, as after all, these men gave up their lives for the benefit of all.
