Eight first-year students studying location photography at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology recently presented Banif Bank (Malta) plc with a set of digital photos of the various locations where the bank has branches in Malta. These include Attard, Naxxar, San Ġwann, St Julian’s, Siġġiewi, Rabat, St Paul’s Bay, Fgura, Qormi and Gozo.

The photos were the taken for an assignment given by the bank to the students to capture the spirit of each locality while considering various subjects including nature, people, village activity, urban structures and landmarks. The students researched the locations and visited them at different times of the day to experiment with natural light.

The assignment formed part of a project between Mcast and the bank whereby students following the Higher National Diploma in Photography course are given ‘live cases’. These modules give students the opportunity to work on projects that are simulations of real work situations, including a brief outlining of client requirements such as specifications and brand guidelines.

Banif’s head of marketing and communication Charles Mizzi said the bank would be using the photos to produce some of the bank’s artworks and publications, and giving the students due credit and exposure.

The students worked under the guidance of Joe Attard, photography lecturer at Mcast’s Institute of Art and Design.
