Four young players will be representing the Malta Badminton Association at the 22nd edition of the Merano International Junior Open between May 3 and 4.

The contingent will be made up of Matthew Abela, Mark Abela, Sam Cassar and Sarah Fava, all Paola BC players.

For the Abela duo and Cassar this will be the second international experience but Fava, the national U-13 champion, will be making her debut in a competition outside Maltese shores.

The organisers in Merano confirmed that 220 players from eight countries will be taking part in the tournament.

Competition will be staged on 15 courts in two different venues.

In singles, participants will be drawn in groups before the knock-out stages but the doubles event will adopt the knock-out format as the standard.

The Maltese players will be taking part in both singles and doubles. They will be accompanied by coaches Edmond Abela and Patrick Cassar.
