Masġar taż-Żebbuġ Patri Leopoldu Tabone OFM in Triq l-Istefanotis, San Ġwann, although opened as recently as 2012, is already proving to be an attractive garden with a number of thriving olive trees. It is now much sought after for relaxation by residents in the area.
Almost all the trees, except for a handful, are healthy and growing well. In a few years’ time this garden promises to be a success story provided it continues to be looked after and well maintained.
It is also obvious that certain improvements need to be taken in hand, such as more benches, more flower beds and, maybe, some space where children can play.
I admit that all these suggestions taken together could prove difficult to implement in their entirety given the very limited spaces available, but with some original thinking by a gardening planner these suggestions (or some of them) could also see the light of the day.
A member of the San Ġwann council, Dominic Cassar, should, in my opinion, be particularly congratulated for taking a special interest in this garden.
Amid the blooming trees are unplanted spaces that could be used for the purposes indicated above (or to plant more trees if these suggestions are not feasible).
