I have been in Malta for close to five months now and have been disgusted with the level of negligence and ignorance adults show

towards their small children in their cars. I am referring to those who choose to smoke quite freely in their cars, not caring that their children are inhaling their poisonous fumes.

More significantly, the regrettably large number of adults who drive with their children either in the front seat of their car unbuckled and the larger numbers whose young children are in the back seat roaming around freely without being buckled and more importantly without car seats to sit in.

What are we waiting for? Must we have a tragedy happen before more strict rules are imposed on these careless adults?

There should be mandatory laws put in place with respect to children and their safety. Our children are our miracles and must be treasured, not allowed to be in such danger each time they are passengers in a car.

It’s time for a change!
