Bjorn Vassallo, the Malta FA CEO, has urged the players and fans of Birkirkara and Valletta to embrace the values of fair play and respect in tomorrow’s title clash at the National Stadium.

“Football has always been the most popular sport among us Maltese and the interest for this game attests to the enthusiasm and passion of the local fans,” Vassallo told Times of Malta.

“This augurs that, on Saturday, we will assist to a football feast both on the pitch as well as on the stands. I am convinced that, although the contest between the players will be keenly-contested, the atmosphere among the fans will be festive and jubilant.”

Vassallo said that the MFA have been working closely with the police and the two clubs to ensure that the organisation on matchday is as smooth as it can possibly be.

“In terms of planning, the Malta FA, clubs and police are working constantly so that, on the day, everything goes according to plan,” Vassallo said.

“Football unites us but finally only one team can win. I hope that both teams put on a good performance and that the spirit of fair play shines through.

“There is no doubt that we are witnessing a moment of excitement and sporting tension but everyone has to keep in mind that respect must prevail to ensure an enjoyable occasion for all.”

Tomorrow, the stadium will open its gates at 3pm and the allocation of fans is as follows: Birkirkara – West A and North Stand; Valletta – West C and South Stand; neutral fans – Millennium D and F.

Only the ticket booths at the Millennium D and F sections will be open tomorrow.

The supporters of Birkirkara are to make way to Ta’ Qali via Mosta and park their vehicles in the West parking area.

The fans of Valletta are to take the Rabat road route and park their vehicles in the National Park area.
