In 1947, the first supplies of Kee Klamp fittings were imported by Joseph F. Spiteri & Co. The concept of tubular construction soon caught on in Malta and one of the major early projects was the provision of Kee Klamp jointed spectator grand stands for the carnival festivities on a yearly basis.

In time, the Kee Klamp tubular jointing system became familiar with architects, civil engineers, building contractors and tradesmen. DIY enthusiasts also found that the system could easily be utilised for many jobs around the house, such as putting up trellis frames in gardens, or protective tubular canopies to provide shade.

More importantly the Kee Klamp tubular jointing system was ideal for putting up safety hand rails, pedestrian guard rails and balcony railings. When Mellieha Bay Hotel was being built, over a 1,000 feet run of Kee Klamp jointed hand rails were put up to provide pedestrian safety along the sea side landscaping. This project also included all the balcony railings.

Over the years, many interesting ideas came about as to what could be done with the Kee Klamp fitting. In the 1970s a group of venture scouts from Stella Maris College built a sea-going raft by joining a Kee Klamp jointed tubular frame which enclosed a number of empty oil drums. This raft was powered by two outboard motors enabling them to cross over from Xemxija to St Paul’s Islands.

Kee Klamp was engineered and developed in the UK in 1934. It is now a global product and because it was so successful, it has been imitated. The original Kee Klamp structural fitting remains the leading brand, having the largest range of fittings and sizes, apart from being a high quality product.

The Kee Klamp is a slip-on component which fits on galvanised steel tubing to create versatile and rigid tubular structures. Kee Klamp structural fittings are manufactured to the requirements of BS EN 1562 and 1563, are supplied hot dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 and also carry the TuV certification.

The range of Kee Klamp structural fittings includes various components. Various sizes are available. To view the full range, visit http://keesafety.co.uk/downloads/all_docs and click on ‘Kee Klamp Fittings Guide’.
