The latest loony idea set to ruin Gozo – the positioning of a 120-square-metre floating “entertainment platform” for Mġarr harbour – simply beggars belief.
The majority of visitors, including those who live just across the water, choose Gozo because it isquieter than Malta.
Those who arrive by boat and stay overnight on board frequently complain about the noise in the harbour as it is already, without a floating entertainment centre.
There are 15 restaurants in Mġarr. They can do without additional noise and, in any case, parking is already at a premium within the marina area.
The announcement of this latest horror describes it as being “towable to any desired location”. If that is the case, can it please be towed to Paceville, which is more likely its natural home?
And then may one ask: How was permission for this monstrosity granted?
Was it included in the original management deal? Has it had approval from Mepa or the Gozo Ministry? Were local business people, residents, or berth holders consulted?
Can anybody just tow a platform into the harbour and rent it out for “entertainment”?
