Benfica win title: Benfica clinched their first Portuguese league title since 2010 when the hosts beat bottom side Olhanense 2-0 with a double from forward Lima last night. The 30-year-old Brazilian, a little-known journeyman until he joined Benfica two years ago, broke the deadlock in the 57th minute and added a second goal three minutes later helped by a blunder from goalkeeper Vid Belec. Benfica’s 11th successive league win gave them an unassailable seven-point lead over second-placed Sporting with two games to play.

Monaco: Monaco postponed Paris St Germain’s march towards a second successive Ligue 1 title after Dimitar Berbatov’s cheeky goal earned them a 1-0 win against Nice yesterday to cement second place in the table. Bulgarian striker Berbatov casually lobbed David Ospina from the edge of the box in the fifth minute to put his side on 72 points with four games left.

Blanc: Laurent Blanc has vowed to extend his contract at Paris St Germain after the French champions clinched the League Cup on Saturday. Blanc, who took over from Carlo Ancelotti last year, was offered a one-year extension to the contract that was due to end in June 2015, but said he would only consider it after the League Cup final. The former France coach told BeIN Sport yesterday: “I am very happy in Paris and I hope the contract extension will soon materialise.”

Bundesliga: Bayer Leverkusen took advantage of a blundering Nuremberg performance to win 4-1 yesterday and leave their opponents stuck in the Bundesliga relegation zone. Emir Spahic, with a brace, Sebastian Boenisch and Roberto Hilbert scored their first goals of the season as Leverkusen revived their hopes of Champions League football. Nuremberg’s defeat also boosted Hamburg’s survival hopes. Stuttgart pulled away from danger by beating third-placed Schalke 04 3-1.
