Malta's junior waterpolo team won the gold medal at the EU8 Nations Tournament in the Czech Republic after beating Austria 9-8 in today's final.

The Maltese boys, led by coaches Karl Izzo and Anthony Farrugia, drew the first session 2-2 before winning the next two 3-1 and 4-2.

Austria hit back in the last quarter, winning 3-0, but Malta hung in to claim a 9-8 victory and top spot.

Ben Plumpton, the top scorer of the competition, scored five goals for Malta in the final. Plumpton was voted best player of the tournament.
