Lija Athletic 1
Żurrieq 5

Żurrieq ended a three-match losing streak after hitting five goals past Lija to prevail in this one-sided encounter at the Luxol Stadium.

The Reds made sure of the points in the opening half when surging into a four-goal lead with Osi Lucky Agboebina hitting a hat-trick to take his tally to 13 this season.

Żurrieq were off to a flier and opened the score early on when Lija’s Beppe Antignolo inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net from an Aaron Agius corner.

Żurrieq could have doubled their lead soon after when Agbeobina sped into the box and was floored by Matthew Fleri Soler.

From the penalty, Ogunnupe’s shot hit the post.

However, on 17 minutes the score became 2-0 after Agbeobina beat keeper Matthew Camilleri with a rasping grounder.

More woes followed for Lija as Agbeobina dribbled past a defender before beating Camilleri with a well-placed shot.

Lija’s Kiril Aleksandrov saw his effort hit the post as Żurrieq grabbed a fourth on the stroke of half-time when Agboebina dispossessed Camilleri to score inside an empty net.

Both teams had their chances on the restart but it was Lija who pulled one back on 74 minutes when Aleksandrov headed home from close range.

Żurrieq, however, rounded up the score in time added on with an Ogunnupe goal.

Żejtun Corinthians 1
St George’s 0

In the space of a week, St George’s lost to another side who got relegated this season.

After the upset to Ħamrun, the Saints failed to lift their game and finished on the receiving end against a Żejtun side that gave their all despite having their fate sealed.

Kenneth Abela and Andre Farrugia went close for the Corinthians early on.

On the half-hour mark Saints goalkeeper Ryan Marmara produced a fine save off Abela but nine minutes from half-time a Josuel Spiteri shot from just outside the area took a deflection and into the net for the only goal of the match.

Gers Delia was unlucky to see his shot hitting the St George’s goal-frame just before the interval.

The second half belonged to St George’s as Żejtun fell back to defend their slender lead.

On 66 minutes, an Alex Ellul drive was stopped by Debattista as the Saints pressed hard for an equaliser.

In stoppage time, Ellul thought he had scored for St George’s but his effort was ruled out for offside.
