Destro: Striker Mattia Destro will miss Roma’s game at Fiorentina today after the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) dismissed an appeal against his three-match ban for punching Cagliari defender Davide Astori. Destro was banned by a Serie A disciplinary panel after being caught on camera lashing out at Astori during Roma’s 3-0 win in Sardinia on April 6. Destro will return to action on May 9 when Roma host league leaders Juventus.

Fenerbahce: The chairman of Turkish club Fenerbahce, Aziz Yildirim, faces a probable return to prison after his appeal against a conviction for match-fixing was rejected by a top court. Yildirim was sentenced to six years, three months in jail in 2012 after he was found guilty of fixing games in Turkey’s top league. He served one year in prison ahead of the trial, but was freed pending the appeals process.

Ronaldo: Real Madrid top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo returned to training with his team-mates yesterday as he battles to regain fitness before Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final, first leg at home to Bayern Munich. He has been suffering from thigh problems and missed Real’s last four matches, including the King’s Cup final victory over Barcelona, since limping off during the Champions League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund.

Fernandes: Chile forward Junior Fernandes suffered a broken leg playing for Dinamo Zagreb this week and looks almost certain to miss the World Cup. Fernandes scored the second goal in Dinamo’s 3-0 win at NK Split in the Croatian league before coming off injured. He was certain to be included in Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli’s 23-man squad for the tournament.

Blokhin: Dynamo Kiev have sacked head coach Oleg Blokhin with the club seven points off the title pace in Ukraine. Ex-national team boss Blokhin, 61, took over at the Olimpiyskiy in September 2012 and led Dynamo to a third-place finish in the Ukrainian league at his first attempt. But the 2009 champions look set to emulate that under-par achievement, with S. Donetsk and Dnipro both seven points away in a share of first place.
