A Muslim and a former Nationalist activist, Mario Farrugia Borg feels “back at home” in the Labour Party, a party his family had always supported.

He says he was attracted back to the PL by the honesty he saw in leader Joseph Muscat.

He says that the PL, like the PN, had a mandate to introduce civil unions and politicians should never impose their own values on others and ensure there was separation between state and religious matters.

He believes irregular migration will be one of major issues and Malta should insist on mandatory burden sharing.

The UNHCR should have set up offices in North Africa where immigrants can apply for asylum. Burden sharing should come into force if asylum is awarded and repatriated if it is not.
