Sea transport between Malta and Gozo registered increases with 895,824 commuters travelling between Malta and Gozo in the first quarter, 10 per cent more than in the same period last year.

The National Statistics Office said the sharp increase were in part due to various activities held in Gozo and initiatives taken by the operator.

The highest number of commuters was recorded in March - 356,208, or 39.8
per cent of the total for the quarter. Total vehicles carried by scheduled vessels advanced by 11.7 per cent, totalling 263,680.

The number of trips in the period under review stood at 4,634, an increase of 1.1 per cent over the corresponding period in 2013. The majority of trips took place in March - 1,636 or 35.3 per cent of total trips for the quarter.
