EU Mediterraean states ministers have agreed on a declaration on irregular migration which emphasises solidarity, the fair distribution of responsibility for migrants, relocation and repatriation of those refused asylum.

The declaration was agreement during a Med 7 (Mediterranean EU states) informal meeting in Spain, attended by Foreign Minister George Vella.

The minister also discussed the situation in Ukraine and reaffirmed their support towards the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the country. They appealed to all sides involved in the matter, particularly Russia, to reduce tension and hoped that today’s meeting in Geneva would bear the desired fruit.
