The government is investing €3.5 million from cohesion funds for Baħrija residents to get an adequate drainage system, Parliamentary Secretary for EU Funds Ian Borg said today.

The project will be carried out by the Water Services Corporation.

Addressing a news conference he said that to date there were still around 500 households in Baħrija deprived of a drainage system.

Dr Borg said the project will not only enhance property value and improve the quality of life of the residents but will also safeguard fields that used to experience difficulties because of drainage that used to gather in and get emptied from one cesspit.

Dr Borg also said that European funds were to be dedicated for the church of St Martin, also in Bahrija, to install photovoltaic panels. This investment forms part of a bigger project that will see similar installations on another 35 parishes around the Maltese Islands.
