Charles Mangion, who was re-elected to Parliament in a casual election to fill the seat vacated by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, yesterday took the oath of allegiance. He also took part in the debate on second reading of the Investment Services (Amendment) Bill, declaring, with tongue in cheek, that this was not his maiden speech. Dr Mangion was first elected in 1987 and re-elected in all subsequent general elections except for 2013 when he was unseated by his nephew, Silvio Schembri.
