Wearing a protective mask after recovering from a broken nose, Steve Camilleri was back in action for his Italian top division team RN Bogliasco earlier this month.

He played in the last three league matches against Como, Florentia and Nervi, netting seven goals to again head the team scorers’ list with 41 goals despite missing four of the 22 scheduled matches during the season.

It is the fifth time in six seasons that Camilleri topped Bogliasco’s scoring rankings.

He scored a hat-trick against Como and two goals against Nervi (both won), plus another brace against Florentia when Bogliasco lost. However, his team managed to maintain their top division status.

The league goals he scored, apart from 16 more in the cup, ranked him eighth in the overall standings.

In media reports, Bogliasco coach Daniele Bettini stressed that the Malta player’s return was very important in order to boost the morale of his colleagues.

Unfortunately, Camilleri could not turn out for Malta in the Commonwealth Championships in Aberdeen last week due to his commitments in the Italian league.
