A not-so-sharp razor blade thief was again sentenced to jail yesterday.

Paul Gauci Borda, 21, of Gżira pleaded guilty to stealing razor blades and shaving foam from shops in Msida and Birkirkara and perfumes, cigarettes, key chains and purses from outlets in Gżira and Msida. He also took a laptop and a digital camera from a hotel in Sliema and batteries from a shop in Tarxien.

His legal aid lawyer, Simon Micallef Stafrace, asked Magistrate Anthony Vella to make a recommendation to the prisons director for his client to be kept at the forensic unit at Mount Carmel hospital. Magistrate Vella sentenced him to two years in jail after taking into consideration his early admission and the fact that he had relapsed.

He has a number of previous convictions for stealing blades and shaving foam from pharmacies across the island. Each time he was caught on CCTV cameras and the police were sure about his identity almost instantly because of the product targeted: razor blades.

In the latest case before yesterday’s, he had been sentenced to a year in jail in April 2012 after admitting stealing from six shops.
