Marathon: A 42-year-old man died after collapsing at the finish line of the London Marathon, organisers said. The man, who has not been named, was given medical attention immediately after finishing the race, but was pronounced dead at hospital. It is the first death in the event since 2012, when 30-year-old hairdresser Claire Squires collapsed a mile from the finish line and died later from cardiac failure.

Tennis: Caroline Garcia upset top seed Jelena Jankovic to win the final of the Claro Open in Bogota. The 20-year-old was playing in her first WTA final and betrayed her current ranking of 74th in the world to beat Jankovic 6-3 6-4.

Motor Sport: Jose Maria Lopez made the perfect start to his Citroen career as he won the World Touring Car Championship season opener in Marrakech and spearheaded an impressive one-two-three finish for the manufacturer. Citroen’s Sebastien Loeb and Yvan Muller came second and third.

Snooker: The final qualifying round of the World Championship takes place today and tomorrow with five players aiming to make it to the Crucible for the first time. Kyren Wilson, Stuart Carrington, Mic-hael Wasley, Li Yan and Robbie Williams are all targeting a debut at snooker’s most famous venue. In the penultimate round, Carrington beat Nigel Bond 10-5. China’s Li came from 8-6 down to beat Joe Swail 10-8, while Williams came from 7-4 down to beat Pankaj Advani 10-7. Wasley scored a 10-6 victory over Mark Joyce, while Wilson saw off Alfie Burden 10-3 with a top break of 90.
