Competing in the Eindhoven Swim Cup 2014 last weekend, Maltese swimmers Nicola Muscat and Julian Harding set new national bests.

Muscat bettered her 50 metres freestyle record when she covered the distance in 26.59 seconds, which was 0.17 seconds inside her previous mark set last December in Berlin.

Muscat, holder of five national and 10 junior records, has been posting fast times recently and these included a sub-one minute in the 100 free also in the Eindhoven international event.

Harding, on his part, put on a powerful swim in the 50 metres breaststroke to touch home in 29.57 seconds.

His time was 0.12 seconds faster than the previous best set by Andrea Agius in November 2012.

In Eindhoven, the ASA were represented by a squad of six swimmers under national coach Andy Colbourn.

Apart from Muscat and Harding, the group was also made up of Neil Muscat, Raoul Stafrace, David Zammit and Pia Grech.

All swimmers registered satisfactory times and this augurs well ahead of the traditional Easter International Meet to be held at the National Swimming Complex, Tal-Qroqq, this week.
