Cricket: Australia opener Chris Rogers has suggested that “in an ideal world” he would retire after next year’s Ashes series in England. The 36-year-old has enjoyed a late-career blossom on the international stage and was last week named as one of Wisden’s five Cricketers of the Year. “In an ideal world it would be nice to finish with the Ashes here next year, see out the season and then think about whether it’s time to call it a day then,” Rogers said. “But who knows? You’re a long time retired and I love what I do, so it will be hard to say it’s all over.”

MotoGP: Polesitter Marc Marquez extended his perfect start to the MotoGP season by storming to victory at the Grand Prix of the Americas last night to cap another dominating week in Texas. It was the second consecutive wire-to-wire win for the 21-year Spanish world champion, who also took the checkered flag at the season-opener in Qatar last month after starting from pole. Marquez continued his love affair with the Austin layout, storming home 4.12 seconds in front of compatriot and factory Honda team mate Dani Pedrosa. Italy’s Andrea Dovizioso on a Ducati was a distant third.

Basketball, NBA: The Dallas Mavericks clinched a NBA playoff berth when they beat the Phoenix Suns on Saturday. Dallas survived a late Phoenix rally to win 101-98 at home. They are in seventh place in the Western Conference with a 49-32 record with one regular season game left. The Atlanta Hawks also booked a play-off berth for the seventh straight season with a 98-85 win over the Miami Heat. The Hawks claimed the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference with the win, a result which eliminated the New York Knicks.
