Debbie Chetcuti, a widow who moved to Birmingham five years ago, has told the UK media how a drunken thug smashed a glass in her face, blinding her in one eye and leaving her 'without a life'.
The woman, 55, was attacked when she asked a neighbour to turn the music down at his garden party, the Birmingham Mail reported. ( http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/local-news/exclusive-interview-woman-who-lost-6983983 )
Theresa Murphy, 29, a guest at the party, smashed a glass tumbler in Ms Chetcuti’s face and was imprisoned for three years after admitting causing grievous bodily harm
Ms Chetcuti said she coul hardly walk because she was losing her balance, and even making a cup of tea was difficult because she ended up pouring hot water over her fingers.
Debbie’s partner Bill Richards had initially called at the neighbour's house and asked them to turn the music down.
They did, but then turned it up again even louder. So Ms Chetcuti went to speak to them again, when she was attacked.
She was taken to hospital, but doctors were unable to save her eye and had to surgically remove it.
Ms Murphy was arrested by police as she attempted to flee the area in a taxi and Ms Chetcuti identified her in a police identification parade.
