Fr Fabio Attard, SDB, has been re-elected Councillor for Youth Ministry for another six-year term.

Fr Attard was born in 1959 in Gozo and attended primary and secondary school education in his hometown Victoria.

After studying at the Gozo Major Seminary between 1975 and 1978, he completed a philosophy course while preparing for his novitiate in Dublin.

Between 1983 and 1988, Fr Attard completed a BA degree in Theology at the Università Pontificia Salesiana and his Licentiate in Moral Theology at the Accademia Alfonsiana in Rome.

He was ordained priest in 1987.

His first pastoral assignment was the founding of a new Salesian presence in one of the suburbs of Tunis, in Tunisia, from 1988 to 1991.

Back in Malta from 1993 to 1996, he worked at St Patrick’s Salesian School and at the Salesian Oratory, serving as rector for both communities.

In 1996, he went to Dublin to complete his research on the theme of conscience within the Anglican sermons of John Henry Newman.

After defending his doctoral thesis in 1999 at the Milltown Institute for Philosophy and Theology, Fr Attard was called to form part of the staff of the Faculty of Theology at the Università Pontificia Salesiana.

His area of specialisation is moral theology at undergraduate level and spirituality and moral theology at graduate and postgraduate level.

In 2005, Fr Attard was given the task of founding and directing the new Pastoral Formation Institute, an institute for the formation of lay people.

During this time, he continued to lecture at the Università Pontificia Salesiana as a visiting professor.
