Prof. Arnold Cassola recently donated to the University Library the papers of his father, Albert Cassola, consisting of his publications, newspapers cuttings dating from 1929 and various handwritten and typewritten texts. Prof. Cassola is his only son.

Albert Cassola was born in 1915 and died in 1974. He was a playwright, novelist, poet, translator and writer of song lyrics, some of which are still broadcast today. His works have been published in various languages.

He was awarded the Cavaliere Ufficiale al merito della Repubblica Italiana by Italian President Giuseppe Saragat. For many years he was a teacher of Italian and Maltese at the Lyceum in Ħamrun.

Prof. Cassola also donated to the University a bust of his father, sculpted by Chev. Emanuel Borg Gauci in 1947.

The presentation was addressed by Prof. Cassola, Dr Bernard Micallef and Prof. Oliver Friggieri.
