The Education Ministry’s Department of Curriculum Management is holding science popularisation events for primary and secondary students.

Two recently-held events, Science Safari and X’hemm il-Birgu, engaged students in hands-on science and mathematics activities.

Over 150 Form II students took part in the Science Safari, which involved a treasure hunt with science-related clues held near the Science Centre in Pembroke.

The first three winning schools were each awarded a digital microscope, while students in the teams placing first, second and third received science kits and entry tickets to the National Aquarium.

In X’hemm il-Birgu, over 1,000 Year 6 pupils took part in hands-on maths and scientific problem-solving activities in various areas around Vittoriosa such as the Maritime Museum, the Inquisitor’s Palace, St Dominic Band Club, the Public Library and Couvre Porte.

Local media personalities Kurt Calleja, Peppi Azzopardi, Franklin Barbara, Jurgen Manicolo, Christabelle, Justin Haber, Glen Vella and Amber were surprise guests during the event.

They spoke to the students and teachers about the role of science and mathematics in their everyday life.
