• Paying a deposit is a commitment with the seller to purchase a specific product or service.

• If the seller breaches the contract of sale, consumers may cancel the sale and request a refund of the deposit paid.

• A sale cannot be cancelled simply because consumers decide they do not want the product or service any more.

• Consumers should negotiate how much deposit they need to pay the seller.
