Malta had to settle for a silver medal at the Commonwealth Championships after losing 16-9 to England in today’s final in Aberdeen.

The Maltes team, led by Karl Izzo, turned in a better performance than in their 10-3 defeat to the English yesterday, but their opponents were clearly the stronger outfit.

Malta, who last month topped the EU 8 Nations Tournament in Limerick, won five consecutive games in the round-robin phase before their defeats to England who ended their commitments with seven wins in as many matches.

Scotland won the bronze medal after beating South Africa 6-5.

England made it a double triumph after beating Canada 10-9 in the final of the women’s competition.
