When I first heard about the Żurrieq incident on the news I knew almost at once that it was due to overexposure to UV rays. As a welder, I suffered from this effect during my younger days.

However, what concerns me is how this could happen to the Prime Minister and 60 other people who suffered similar effects.

Which brings me to a big question: are we following European safety rules? I wonder what else other people in our workforce are overexposed to? No doubt to dust and chemicals, especially when they don’t wear the protective gear they should be wearing.

I think it is time for government officials to start enforcing proper safety regulations for this incident is a prime example of how easy it is for one to get injured at one’s place of work.

I wish Muscat and all the others a speedy recovery and urge them to take good note of this incident, which is a disgrace.
