As I write, the major Victoria-Nadur road is closed to allow cycle racing (sometimes it is closed for horse racing).

The main alternative route out of the village is (and here is a surprise) blocked by a crane.

However, Gozo has a plot of land that is specifically designated as a racecourse. It also has a heliport which is disused.

And there are plans, talked about frequently, for an internal aeroplane service.

Would it not be a good idea to tarmac one area on which light passenger-carrying aircraft will be able to land and which could also be used – assuming that flights are not in any case likely to be too frequent – for racing horses, bikes and even go-carts?

Wouldn’t that be better than blocking major thoroughfares?

Or is such a proposal simply too logical to make?
