Sue Abela claimed her second medal in the Mediterranean Bowling Championships, which came to a close last weekend, after placing second in the Masters Final.

Abela, who won gold in the women’s singles in Gibraltar last week, made the cut for the Masters Finals after placing fifth (4,504, 187.6 avg) in the All Events standings.

She was joined by team-mate Joanna Attard, a bronze medallist in the singles event, who placed eighth on 4,428 (184.5).

The Masters Finals took the form of a knock-out, with head-to-head confrontations played over two games for total pinfall.

Attard played the top-ranked Lauriane Celie, of France, in her quarter-final, She got off to a positive start with a 216 in game one, against a 178 from her opponent.

However, the Maltese lost game two 234-192 to lose the tie by a mere four pins (412-408).

Abela came from behind to win her quarter-final match against Spain’s Cristina Sanz. Abela lost the first match 186-181 but then took the second 168-193 to advance 374-354 on aggregate.

France’s Stephanie Dubourg was up next for Abela who again lost the opener 211-202 but won the second 202-187 to prevail 404-398.

Celie was Abela’s opponent in the final.

Game one could barely have been closer, with Abela taking a nominal two-pin lead (187-185).

Both ladies stepped up their game in game two, but Abela’s 202 effort was not enough to clinch the crown as Celie shot a better 247 to win the match 432-389.
