Qormi 6
Young Stars 2

Young Stars went ahead in the first minute when Joseph Dalli pushed home a cross following a move down the left flank.

Both teams probed each other’s defences but did not take advantage of a series of penalty corners during a 10-minute period in the next quarter of an hour.

Play flowed from end to end and, in the 20th minute, Juan Sarcia equalised for Qormi as a result of another penalty corner action. He grabbed his second four minutes later, putting Qormi 2-1 in front after another penalty corner.

Young Stars fluffed a chance in the 29th minute and, after missing a penalty corner opportunity a minute later, they were punished just before half-time when Sarcia again stepped up to complete his hat-trick.

Four minutes into the second half, Sarcia broke clear on the right and crossed for Keith Calleja to score Qormi’s fourth goal.

In the 50th minute, Andrew Camilleri cleared off the line for Young Stars who did not give up. They reduced the arrears in the 57th minute through Clive Williams who converted a penalty stroke.

Young Stars then forced a diving save from Ramon Chircop, Qormi’s custodian. His team were then awarded a penalty stroke in the 65th minute and Sarcia obliged, struck his fourth as Qormi surged 5-2 ahead to all but seal the issue.

Just before the final whistle, John Williams scored the sixth goal as Qormi won this championship decider to secure their fifth consecutive title.

Umpires: Robert Aquilina, Luke Busuttil Leaver.
