Hughton sacked: Chris Hughton was sacked as manager of Premier League strugglers Norwich City last night. “The Norwich City Board has taken the decision to give the club the maximum chance to secure the points required between now and the end of the season to ensure retention of our Premier League status,” a statement read. Norwich, who were beaten 1-0 at home by fellow strugglers West Brom on Saturday, are fourth from bottom, five points clear of the relegation zone.

Maran: Relegation-threatened Catania have sacked head coach Rolando Maran for the second time this season following yesterday’s defeat to Torino. The 50-year-old was originally dismissed in October and replaced by Luigi De Canio but results did not improve for Serie A’s bottom side and he returned to the Stadio Angelo Massimino dugout on January 15. However, he delivered only one win from the 13 matches of his second stint.

Juan Jesus: Inter defender Juan Jesus will be out for the rest of the season after rupturing knee ligaments during Saturday night’s 2-2 draw with Bologna at the San Siro. It’s not clear how long Juan Jesus will be out for but his season is over and so are his hopes of making the Brazil squad for the World Cup. “I want to thank all the fans for their support... I’ll be back stronger than ever,” he wrote on Twitter.

Anelka: Former France striker Nicolas Anelka has joined Atletico Mineiro, according to the Brazilian club’s president. The 35-year-old Anelka has been without a club since being sacked by West Bromwich Albion last month following his use of the allegedly anti-Semitic ‘quenelle’ gesture when celebrating a goal. Atletico Mineiro president Alexandre Kalil posted on Twitter yesterday “Anelka e do Galo”, which translates as “Anelka is a rooster”, in reference to the club’s nickname.
