Ħamrun Spartans 1
Gżira United 4

Gżira returned to winning ways yesterday with an easy win at the expense of the already-relegated Ħamrun Spartans.

Ħamrun went close first through a Mariano Cornago del Pedro free-kick that was saved in style by Frederick Tabone as Gżira opened the score soon after when Steve Meilak beat Jean Claude Debattista from close range.

The Maroons were the only team on the pitch and a Christian Cassar effort from outside the box was saved by the Ħamrun keeper before Martin Kotyza drove the ball home to make it 2-0 on the half-hour mark following a Moises Avila Perez cross.

Ħamrun failed to react and it was Gżira who came close again when an Avila Perez header finished just over the crossbar.

Avila Perez was on target however to make it 3-0 when put through by Cassar just before the break.

With the Maroons lifting their foot off the pedal, the Spartans were able to venture forward more often as the second half got underway with substitute Rodney Refalo seeing his effort hitting the bar.

At the other end, Avila Perez saw his header coming off the woodwork before Ħamrun pulled one back on 79 minutes through Refalo who beat Tabone with a crisp shot from just inside the area.

However, deep into stoppage time Gżira sealed their win when Avila Perez scored from close in.
