Updated Monday morning - At least five more Swieqi residents are claiming to have had their car tyres slashed on Saturday-Sunday night, bringing the number up to over two dozen in the past four weeks.

The vandals struck again at Triq il-Hemel and Swieqi Road. Vandalism was also reported on Friday-Saturday night.

Earlier today residents took to social media to vent their frustrations. Among the victims was Michael Falzon, who told timesofmalta.com that his car had already been attacked last month.

“A few weeks ago my car was attacked. My side mirror was broken and my car was scratched with a key. This morning I found all the tyres were flat,” he said.

On a facebook group of Swieqi residents, many called for an increased police presence and questioned why the area’s police station remained closed despite being inaugurated for the second time last February.

One resident put out a bounty on the vandals, offering a €500 reward after her car was repeatedly vandalised.

Swieqi deputy mayor Justin Fenech condemned the vandalism and called for the locality to be given the protection it deserved.

“The very presence of police officers in those two roads, which are very busy, would make a difference,” he said.
