Queen’s legendary guitarist Brian May and award-winning British singer Kerry Ellis wowed the crowd at a concert in Valletta’s St George’s Square last night with a medley of Queen songs and classic cover versions.

But the performance will also be remembered for an appeal May made for the Maltese to vote to end bird hunting in spring, should a referendum be held. (See below)

He noted that Malta has a democratic process which could lead to a referendum to change the law and said that when the time comes, the Maltese should vote to end cruelty against the birds. Several members of the audience loudly applauded May's initiative.

In an interview with The Sunday Times of Malta last week, the 66-year-old guitarist, who is an active animal rights campaigners in the UK, said: "real men don't hunt".
