On January 26 an article in The Sunday Times of Malta stated that there were no plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of World War I in Malta.

Since March 7, the Maltese Ambassador in Belgium laid a poppy wreath at the Ploegsteert Memorial where my relative Bernard Bernard is commemorated as the first Maltese to die in the war.

The magazine Il-Bizilla issued by Air Malta in March also has an article by Robert Weatherburn, wherein he states that “in World War 1 the Maltese fought with the British and British Commonwealth forces against the Germans and their allies, the Turks”.

I am sure there are many other Maltese descendants of people who died or fought in this war and therefore I believe it should be commemorated by the authorities in Malta and not dismissed.
