The Maltese women’s national team suffered a comprehensive 11-0 defeat to group leaders Switzerland in a World Cup Group 3 qualifier at the Herti Almend Stadium, in Zug, yesterday.

It was a dominant display from the Swiss girls who were all over the visitors right from the outset as they cantered home to a fifth successive victory that keeps them on top of Group 3 with a perfect 15 points, nine clear of Israel who have two matches in hand.

Malta stay bottom of the group with no points and still without a goal after four outings.

The match was all but settled by the end of the first half when Switzerland scored seven times without reply.

The second half was purely academic with the hosts adding four more goals to make victory more pronounced.

Lara Dickenmann netted a hat-trick while Martina Moser and Fabienne Humm each bagged a double.

Pierre Brincat’s girls will again be in action on Thursday when they host Iceland at the Centenary Stadium.
