British High Commissioner Rob Luke, and Alex Sceberras Trigona, the Prime Minister’s special envoy to the World Trade Organisation in Geneva, visited the workshop to welcome participants attending the Modern Diplomacy for Small States workshop.

The 10-day workshop focuses on the current diplomatic challenges and organisational needs of small states, engaging as speakers experienced diplomats who have first-hand knowledge of the challenges facing small states and how these challenges have been dealt with by Malta.

It is funded by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and organised by the DiploFoundation. It is being attended by 20 participants from 14 countries, mainly from small developing states in the Commonwealth.

The High Commissioner highlighted the role of the Commonwealth as a group of countries sharing a set of values notwithstanding their diversity. He made special reference to the CHOGM being hosted in Malta in 2015, underlining the vast complexity of organizing such an event and the opportunities it presents.
