Instantly recognisable by his trademark hairstyle, Queen’s legendary guitarist Brian May walked through the airport’s arrivals lounge to turning heads and gaping mouths yesterday.

The superstar’s arrival to Malta was low-key, with people only alerted by a police presence.

May was joined by award-winning British singer Kerry Ellis, who cradled her baby son and was accompanied by her husband James Townsend.

Together, they will be performing the last concert of their Candlelight Tour at St George’s Square, Valletta, tonight. What can the audience expect?

“Fun, something very intimate and quite a broad spectrum of sounds and songs,” the 66-year-old guitarist told Times of Malta.

“It is quite informal. We play some Queen songs but it is very different from that environment. We tell some stories and try to interact with the audience because we hope the audience will feel close and it’ll feel genuinely interactive.

“But it’s about songs and Kerry’s amazing voice.

“We’re very happy to be here to do it,” said May, writer of Queen classics such as We Will Rock You and The Show Must Go On.

Nervously awaiting May’s arrival was Josef Camilleri, a huge fan who even brought along his replica of May’s Red Special electric guitar to be signed by his hero.

A ticket booth will be open all day at St George’s Square today while a limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
