Mediterranean Bank have maintained their commitment towards the local sports community by extending their sponsorship deal with the Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU) for another year.

The bank’s partnership with the MRFU began in 2010 with the signing of a two-year agreement which enabled the rugby organisation to invest in various areas of the game, both on a national and international level.

Mediterranean Bank CEO Mark Watson said they were delighted to be helping the MRFU to continue with their development.

“Traditionally banks always throw their weight behind sports on an international scene, so we were the first to sponsor the local rugby union,” he said.

“We only hope that our ongoing involvement in the area of sports will continue to create meaningful connections with our customers.”

MRFU president Brian Dalton is confident that the sport will benefit from the new sponsorship deal.

“The new season opened on a real high for the national team as we are now 43rd in the IRB world rankings,” he said.

“Mediterranean Bank’s decision to renew their commitment to Rugby Union is a great boost for us.

“We now look forward to consolidating our relation-ship through this support and hope that the national team maintain their upward trend.”

The Mediterranean Bank sponsorship comes at the right time for the MRFU with the national team playing another European Nations Cup Division 2A qualifier against The Netherlands tomorrow at the Hibs Stadium (2pm).
