I thank Anna Busuttil for her feedback in her letter ‘Park-and-ride trip too long’ (March 22) and would like to take this opportunity to expand on our Floriana park-and-ride shuttle services.

Beyond the reduction in parking fees to 40c, the changes that were launched last February to the service also comprised the updating of the shuttle service.

Two shuttle services were introduced: one is a ‘regular’ service with minimum frequency of a trip every 10 minutes between all zones of the park and ride, Floriana and Valletta bus terminus; and the other an ‘extended’ service – which is likely the service used by Busuttil – that serves Castille Place, St George’s Square and lower Valletta, with a trip every 30 minutes starting from 8.30am.

The extended service is a round trip that starts and ends at Floriana park-and-ride and understandably takes longer than the regular shuttle service, which picks up passengers at Valletta terminus and goes directly to Floriana and all park-and-ride zones.

We understand Busuttil’s disappointment at finding herself on the longer journey, which is targeted at serving park-and-ride users who are looking to visit the city centre.

We would like to apologise if there was any lack of clarity about the two services that may have resulted in inconvenience.

Through Floriana park-and-ride services, Malta Public Transport remains committed to delivering an efficient and cost-effective parking alternative to visitors of Floriana and Valletta, reducing congestion and traffic in Valletta.
