Three teams, featuring the top players at the Malta Polo Club, got the season underway at Marsa last Saturday with an American Tournament and the prestigious Challenge Cup at stake.

The Challenge Cup, donated by the British Ships and Regiments Commander back in 1870, has been contested regularly ever since that year.

The competing teams were More Polo, Myoka and Chukkas. Conditions were ideal and a sizeable crowd of spectators turned up to follow play from the club house.

More Polo, captained by Christian Delia, and supported by Karl Galea, Patrick Filletti and Jean Vella, won the tournament. They had a winning score of 6.5 goals over Myoka (three) and Chukkas (2.5).

Martin Arrigo, Matthew Mifsud, Miles Lockwood and Caroline Lockwood played for Chukkas.

The Myoka team was composed of Jeremy Besancon, Alfie Manduca, Ben Farrugia and Matthew Brincat.

A reception was held later at the club house where Max Zerafa presented the Challenge Cup to the victors. The sponsors on the day were More Supermarkets, Myoka Spas and Chukkas.
