Scene 1. Back in 2011, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, while acknowledging that, according to his conscience, he is against divorce, declares that he will only vote for the Divorce Bill if its passage through Parliament is threatened – in respect for the will of the 53.2 per cent of the votes cast in the referendum. He was criticised for his honourable decision.

Scene 2. President George Abela, despite the Civil Unions Bill being approved by Parliament, declares outright that he will not sign the law according to the constitution on moral grounds. He is praised for his outstanding values.

Scene 3. President-designate Marie Louis Coleiro says she finds no difficulty in signing the Civil Unions Bill since this proposal in the PL electoral manifesto was approved by the majority of the electorate in the 2013 general election. Silence.

Epilogue: Let each individual judge by his conscience the decision of these three respected citizens.
