The Elysian Singers and the St Paul Choral Society will present a joint concert of Sacred Choral Music at St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral, Valletta, on Saturday at 7.30pm.

The London-based Elysian Singers are celebrating 28 years of successful choral singing. Founded in 1986 by Matthew Greenall, the group soon established a reputation as a young and lively chamber choir.

They regularly perform baroque and romantic masterpieces at important British venues and have participated in numerous festivals around the UK.

During this concert, they will be performing works by Josquin Des Prez (1450-1521), John Ireland (1879-1962) and Gerald Finzi (1901-1956).

The St Paul Choral Society, founded in May 1998, performs an extensive and varied repertoire of sacred and secular polyphony, ranging from the masters of the Italian Renaissance, Palestrina and Viadana, to contemporary composers Rutter and Jenkins.

In the forthcoming concert, they will be performing works by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, John Stainer, Randall Thompson and Jiří Ropek, and will be accompanied by organist Elizabeth Conrad.

The two choirs will then join forces to perform works by Anton Bruckner, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Charles H. H. Parry. Entrance is free. There will be a collection towards the newly refurbished organ at St Paul’s Pro-Anglican Cathedral.

The St Paul Choral Society rehearses every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm at the Undercroft, St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, Valletta. If you like singing, have an aptitude for music and are considering joining a choir, please feel free to call in and listen to the rehearsals. Prospective singers should write to director@spcs.info.
