Marsa retained the Freedom Day shield after seeing off the challenge of Cospicua in an exciting finish to yesterday’s regatta at the Grand Harbour.

After winning three of the opening four races (Midalji, Frejgatini and Kajjikki), Cospicua held a slight advantage going into the final race with Marsa a close second, having claimed maximum points in the third event (Tal-Pass) and second place in Tal-Midalji.

The experience of the Marsa rowers told in the decisive race, Ta’ b’erbgħa, as they led all the way to seal their success with 64 points, four clear of Cospicua who ultimately paid the price for their disqualification in the third race.

Kalkara were third on 28 points.

Cospicua won the B category with a total of 68 points, 10 ahead of Vittoriosa. Senglea were third on 20 points.
