Caffe Moak Luxol and Honey Athleta will be contesting this year’s St James women’s league final after bagging a second victory in the best-of-three semi-final series, yesterday.

Luxol ended the reign of outgoing champions Depiro after a 60-51 success to complete a 2-0 series victory.

Athleta put on a late show as, inspired by E.J. Ofomata, they overwhelmed Hibernians 67-58 to book their place in the final, having won the opening tie last week.

In the men’s BOV League, Luxol are the first play-off finalists after defeating Depiro 79-62.

Samuel Deguara was in hot form for John Tabone’s team, potting 34 points as Luxol sealed a 2-0 series victory.

The other semi-final between Siġġiewi and Athleta will go into a third match to decide a winner.

Yesterday, Siġġiewi levelled the tie when they beat Athleta 88-78 with Ivo Hoeger potting 23 points for the winners. Athleta’s Matthew Naudi topped the scorers’ chart with 27 points.

These two teams will now meet on Sunday in the decisive Game 3.
