Yesterday’s slightly-trimmed Winter League programme, after the San Ġiljan vs Sliema match was postponed, resulted in victories for Neptunes Emirates and Marsa-scala Mor€ after they added the scalp of Valletta United and Marsaxlokk ASC respectively.

Both teams have thus maintained their 100 per cent record.

In the top division match the Balluta Bay team asserted their superiority over opponents who were without Clint Debono and Nicky Bonello Ghio in their list of 11 men.

The middle sessions proved decisive for Neptunes as they took a 12-4 lead, with the goals coming from their thoroughbreds Niki Lanzon, Jordan Camilleri and Clint Mercieca who eventually scored four goals each.

After that, Dorian Pisani put in more fringe players in the water and the fighting City team managed to limit the damage when winning the last session 5-2.

The first match, a derby of the south, was conducted by Marsa-scala who led throughout by three or four goals against opponents who were three players short on their list.

Pierre Borg’s team had six players on the scoring sheet, Clyde Bonello spearheading his colleagues when netting four times.

For the losers, left-hander Mark Fenech scored a hat-trick.
