Euroscola is an educational programme for students to learn about European integration by experiencing it first-hand. Twenty-four students from Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School, Naxxar, accompanied by three of their teachers, recently took part in the latest edition of the Euroscuola at the European Parliament, in Strasbourg, France.
To prepare for the event, the Maltese group met regularly every week over the past few months and various teachers gave them lectures on topical issues in the EU and on communication, public speaking and interpersonal skills.
At Euroscuola, the Maltese students joined 520 peers from 21 other EU member states to become Members of the European Parliament for a day.
During the event, the students joined working groups to debate various topics, including renewable energies, a European year against food waste, Europe’s future, freedom of information, active citizenship, the 2014 European elections and employment opportunities for youths.
Each working group then presented its recommendations in the plenary session.
The Maltese students were singled out by the European Parliament representative as being very well prepared to participate actively during the discussions as well as having relevant recommendations.
The students’ participation in Euroscuola was supported by the European Parliament.
